Maldon wears its age openly. The High Street steps downhill between Georgian and Victorian frontages toward the Hythe and the water, and the houses behind it are just as old: thick walls, shallow floor voids, rooms that were never drawn on a grid. Design a bathroom here and the building has opinions. A wall that looks flat rarely is. A floor that should carry a concealed cistern frame often needs strengthening first. So the more you can tell us about your room, the better the design becomes. Send us the measurements and a few photographs, and if the tape measure is not for you, our measuring service can take them instead.
The CM9 villages tell a similar story in smaller rooms. Goldhanger, Tollesbury, Tolleshunt D'Arcy, the Tothams and Purleigh: cottages and farmhouses with low ceilings and pipework that has been added to for decades. Small rooms reward planning. A properly designed cottage shower room can feel far more generous than a big bathroom that was never really designed at all, and the drawing is where all of that gets settled, calmly, long before anything is ordered.
Heybridge is the other Maldon. Modern estates, square rooms, walls that accept a fixing wherever you like. The conversation there isn't about what the building allows. It's about making a standard developer bathroom feel like it belongs to the people who actually live in it.
And the estuary sits under all of it. Homes near the Blackwater, and further out toward the Dengie villages, live with more moisture in the air year round, so we lean toward finishes that shrug it off: porcelain over natural stone in the wettest zones, and ventilation designed in from the start rather than added later.
There's no Bowmans showroom in Maldon, and we'd rather say that plainly. Every Maldon bathroom is designed from Braintree, around 17 miles up the road, and the drive is worth it when you want to hold a tile, open a drawer and turn a tap on before you choose it.

A cloakroom starts from around £3,000 in products. The Braintree showroom is about 17 miles away, and it is the easiest place to begin. Come and put your hands on the stone, stand beside a real bath and see the brassware in daylight. If the drive does not suit you, a call or an email starts things off just as well. After that, the room's dimensions. Send them however is easiest, and if measuring is a job you would rather hand over, a measuring service can be arranged. We draw your bathroom in 3D and put a fixed price against every item in it, so you can look at it, live with it for a while and change whatever you like. Nothing is ordered until you are happy with it, and the design itself costs you nothing. Then we order and coordinate the lot. Whoever fits the room, your own tradesperson or a member of our Approved Fitter Network, receives the full technical pack: the installation drawings, the product data and all the clearances. We stay reachable for the whole build, register your warranties at the end of it, and are still here long after that.

Our closest featured work to Maldon comes from Kelvedon, where one family asked us to design all three of their bathrooms as a single scheme.
