Bowman Bathrooms is an independently-owned bathroom design and supply company, founded in 2022 by Jonathon Barclay. Leigh-on-Sea, SS9, is home to one of our two Essex showrooms — the other is in Braintree — so a Leigh-on-Sea room is designed just minutes from where it's fitted. We design, specify and supply every product, and nothing is put on order before you've approved the 3D specification. We're rated 4.8/5 from 88 Google reviews. Recent rooms include a new-build master ensuite in Billericay CM11 and a wetroom ensuite in Benfleet SS7, both specified from this showroom. Your own fitter, or one from our Approved Fitter Network, carries out the build.
Our Leigh-on-Sea showroom is at 942 London Road, SS9 3NF — in the town itself, with full bathroom, tap and shower displays you can see and try in person.

A note from the studio · 20 August 2026
Leigh-on-Sea is a town of short walks and very different houses. Start by the cockle sheds in Old Leigh and the cottages are small and old, with walls that were never straight and floors that sit close to the ground. Climb the hill to the Broadway and the streets fill with Edwardian and inter-war family homes. Carry on east into Chalkwell and the villas grow taller, with bathrooms that were often carved out of a bedroom decades after the house was built. Leigh sits within the City of Southend-on-Sea, but it has never felt like a suburb, and its houses don't behave like one either.
That variety is the whole job. In an Old Leigh cottage the questions are space and access: how a bath gets up a narrow stair, where a concealed cistern can go when the wall behind the toilet is solid brick, whether a wetroom floor is a kinder answer than an enclosure. On the Marine Estate and around Chalkwell the rooms are bigger, but the pipework has often been moved two or three times, so the more you can tell us about your room, the closer the first design lands.
Belfairs is where the inter-war semi takes over, and it's the kind of house we see again and again around here. The bathroom is usually at the back, over the kitchen, sized for a pedestal basin and a bath with a curtain. Most of what we design there is about getting a proper walk-in shower into that footprint without the room feeling smaller than it did before.
Then there's the air. Homes near the estuary live with salt and damp all year, and it tells on cheaper finishes first. We specify brassware and fixings that cope with it, and we plan ventilation into the design rather than leaving it to the last day of the build.
Our showroom is on London Road, so the first conversation usually happens there, standing next to the tiles and taps you're thinking about. After that, all we need are the measurements of your room. Take them with our step-by-step measuring guide, send them over whenever you're ready, and we'll draw the room in 3D from there.

Investment
£6,000–£15,000+ for a full bathroom
Products for a full bathroom in a Leigh-on-Sea home usually come to between £6,000 and £15,000, and can go beyond that for a large Chalkwell or Marine Estate room or a whole-house scheme. Those figures cover everything we supply — sanitaryware, brassware, tiles, furniture, lighting and heating. The design itself is free.
With the products come the design, the coordination and a designer who picks up the phone.
Installation is quoted by whoever fits the room. If installation goes through our Approved Fitter Network, we can give you an indication of that cost during the design stage; if you're using your own fitter, they'll price it from our drawings.
For a room-by-room figure, try the Price Guide, or book a showroom visit and we'll price your actual bathroom.
Walk in, or ring us. Both work. The showroom is on London Road, and most people do begin here, with a real tile in their hand and the showers running, though a phone call is every bit as good a starting point. Then the sizes. Yours, taken with a tape measure and our step-by-step guide, then sent over. The 3D drawing comes next, with a fixed price sitting against every line of the specification. The design is free, you only pay for the products you choose, and nothing leaves a supplier until you have approved the drawing. After that we order and coordinate everything, from an Old Leigh cottage to a Belfairs semi. We are on hand for the whole build and register your manufacturer warranties at the end. The person fitting it, yours or one from our Approved Fitter Network, never has to guess at anything, because the technical pack covers the installation drawings, the clearances and the product data.
What we design: master ensuite, family bathroom, wetroom, shower room, guest ensuite and cloakroom.

Your Own Tradesperson
Good. Before day one they get the installation drawings and the product data, so nothing on site comes as a surprise.
Our Approved Fitter Network
We'll match you with a fitter from our Approved Fitter Network — independent, vetted and insured, and already used to working from our drawings and product range.
Either route, the design and every product come from Bowmans. Read more about installation options and the network's 2-year installation guarantee.
Billericay, CM11 · Master ensuite · New-build extension · 2025
Dawn's ensuite is part of a new extension, so we designed it from a blank canvas rather than around an old layout. A BC Designs Kurv bath sits under an Axor flood spout, twin JTP Hix rainfall showers run side by side with brushed-black controls, a Toto washlet takes the far corner, and Ca' Pietra Calacatta Maximus porcelain covers every surface from floor to ceiling.
Products came to £30,000–£35,000 — the top of what we do, and well above the £6,000–£15,000+ most full bathrooms land in — with ten brands in one room and four weeks on site once the fitter started. It's the furthest project from Leigh-on-Sea on this page, and the most ambitious, which is why it's here.
Render vs. Reality
“We absolutely love our new bathroom. Every time someone comes over, their reaction is always the same — they walk in and just go ‘wow’. It's become the standout room in the house.”
Dawn, Billericay CM11
Three completed rooms from our project portfolio, each labelled with its own postcode. The nearest to Leigh is Benfleet, SS7.
Benfleet SS7 — Master Ensuite · 2023 Roper Rhodes furniture, HiB Solas mirror and Porcelanosa Boulder tiles. Products £8,000–£10,000.
Brentwood CM13 — Double-Fixture Family Bathroom · 2025 Herringbone walls, Ca' Pietra Kensington floor and chrome Keswick brassware. Products £7,000–£8,000.
Billericay CM11 — Luxury Master Ensuite Twin showers, BC Designs bath and Axor brassware. Products £30,000–£35,000.
All of SS9, SS0 and SS7, from the showroom on London Road. Here's what we tend to find in each part of town.
Fishermen's cottages and narrow stairs. Access and a solid back wall shape the layout before style comes into it.
Edwardian villas and larger family homes, often with a second bathroom worth bringing into the same scheme.
Belfairs is inter-war semi territory; up in Highlands the houses vary more. Either way the brief is usually a proper walk-in shower in the footprint of the old bath.
Just beyond SS9, in SS0 and SS7 — the postcodes where our nearest completed project, the Benfleet ensuite above, was built.

“Fantastic team who helped us from design stage all the way through to completion. Friendly, polite and professional people who made us feel comfortable and happy throughout. The quality of the work and products are superb. We would use them again for future works.”
David Sims — Benfleet
“I’ve waited a couple of weeks before posting this review as I wanted to make sure everything was good and I have to say that I still love our new bathroom as much today as the day it was handed over. The whole experience with Bowman’s from the moment we walked into the showroom to the final day of installation was exceptional.
Throughout the design stage Verity listened to our ideas and feedback and provided multiple design alterations until we had the perfect outcome. Our fitter, Stefan was superb! He explained what was being done every step of the way and checked in regularly to make sure we were happy.
Overall, it’s the best piece of work we’ve ever had done in the house and couldn’t recommend Bowman’s highly enough.”
Maria Brame — Brentwood CM13
“Just had our bathroom completed by Bowmans — really good service. The tiling looks great and Paul and the team returned the next day to fix any snags we found. They have been really helpful and being able to visit the showroom was a real plus.”
