The old ensuite in this Wickham Bishops house was too tight to be worth refitting as it stood, so the design started by moving the long wall out into the bedroom and hanging a new door. Behind the plaster was an oak-framed cottage — beams, uneven joists, the lot — which meant the floor came up before anything went in.

The extra width paid for itself immediately. It bought a proper shower enclosure with a brushed brass frame, a full run of fitted furniture behind the WC, and a wall-hung vanity with room either side of it — none of which the original footprint could take.

The furniture is Calypso Chiltern in Contour Blue Ash, a deep navy Shaker with fluted brushed brass knobs and a stone-effect worktop. Brassware is JTP throughout — an Evo basin mixer, a VOS towel radiator on dual fuel, and a JTP Intuition concealed digital shower with a remote, so the shower can be started from the bedroom and be warm by the time you walk in.

Large-format marble-effect porcelain from Ca' Pietra runs floor to ceiling, with a brass-framed niche set into the shower wall and an LED strip under the vanity on a sensor. A Crosswater concealed frame carries the WC, a HiB backlit mirror sits above the basin, and Warmup underfloor heating runs under the tiles on a 6iE touchscreen thermostat.
